Connection Type: |
This drop-down list allows you to select the type of connection. The options are Free, Hinged, and Clamped. The default is Free. If you select Free, a pinned connection is modelled using a hinge element, which does not provide any rotational restraint. A Hinged connection has an associated rotational stiffness, and is modelled using a flex joint. A Clamped connection links a secondary pipeline to the main pipeline at a specified orientation. |

In-Plane Angle: |
The angle between the secondary pipeline and the main pipeline, measured about the axis perpendicular to the vertical plane of the main pipeline. For example if the main pipeline is completely defined in the global XY plane the in-plane angle would be measured about the global Z-axis. Note that the term main pipeline refers to the Line component on which the Connection component is defined whereas the secondary pipeline refers to the component in the model which connects to the Connection component. The default in-plane angle is 90º. Units: [deg] |
Out-of-Plane Angle: |
The angle between the secondary pipeline and the main pipeline, measured about the axis tangential to the main pipe centreline at the location of the connection. For example if the main pipeline is positioned horizontally along the global Y-axis the out-of-plane angle would be measured about the global Y-axis. The default out-of-plane angle is 0º.
