Overview

The Connection component is used to model arbitrary connections between two pipe sections or cables. Connection components are important for building complex models. When a pipeline containing a Connection component is added to a model, it appears as a connection point allowing other components to be attached to the initial pipeline. The mass and buoyancy contributions of the Connection component are determined from the Weight in Air and Weight in Water values that you specify.

There are three Connection Types provided.

Free Connection

The Free connection option models a pinned constraint without providing any rotational restraint.

Hinged Connection

The Hinged connection option has an associated connection stiffness, simulating a pinned connection with some resistance to rotational motion.

Clamped Connection

The Clamped connection option links a secondary pipeline to the main pipeline at a specified orientation.
