Support Locations & Vertical Reactions

When an individual support is included on a higher level component such as the Vessel, Stinger or Stinger Section component it is necessary to define a specific location for the support. This input location corresponds to a point on the bottommost surface of the support. The figure below illustrates the location reference point for the various support types. Note that the cross hairs are also positioned half along the length of the supports

Vertical reaction outputs for Support components have a sign convention applied to indicate whether the pipe is pushing downwards or upwards into the support surfaces. Positive reactions represent the downward cases whereas negative ones are for upward instances. Such a sign convention can prove useful for Zero-Gap O-Supports and O-Shaped Supports which surround the pipe on all sides, for example at tensioners.
