Overview

This Support Component is used to define the various support types available in PipeLay.

Support Component

Supports may be broadly categorised into four main types – Rollerbox Support, O-Shaped Support, Zero-Gap Guide, and Tensioner. The first three types may be modelled using the Support component, as described here, and tensioners are modelled using Tensioner components, as described in another article. Where supports are placed on a stinger, the relevant Support or Tensioner component is referenced by a Stinger component, or by a Stinger Section component which is in turn referenced by a Stinger component. If you wish to locate supports on a vessel, the relevant Support or Tensioner component is referenced by a Vessel component. The remainder of the discussion on supports is divided among the following articles:

Rollerbox Support’ describes how to create a rollerbox support, and discusses the relevant inputs.

O-Shaped Support’ describes how to create an O-shaped support, and discusses the relevant inputs.

Zero-Gap Guide’ describes how to create a zero-gap guide, and discusses the relevant inputs.

Support Locations’ outlines the reference point on the various support types which corresponds to the support locations defined on the Vessel, Stinger and Stinger Section components.

Rollerbox Contact Modelling’ provides a detailed discussion of each of rollerbox contact modelling options provided in PipeLay. Several such options are provided, ranging from relatively simple to increasingly sophisticated and realistic.

Additional articles also provide information on the Support Data Inputs and Support Best Practice.
