Model - Specifying Seabed, Water Depth & Vessels

Previous page Next page

specifying a Seabed

You can use the Seabed drop-down list to select the Seabed component to use in the model. If you do not specify a seabed in your model, PipeLay uses a default flat horizontal seabed at X=0.

specifying Water Depth

You can click on the Water Depth button to specify a water depth. If you do not specify a water depth, PipeLay uses a default value of 100m or 100ft.

Adding a Vessel

To add a vessel to the model, click on the Vessels folder in the sub-component list and then click the Add button, or double-click on the Vessels folder. This opens the Vessel - Add dialog as shown in the figure below, allowing you to define the vessel properties.

Add Vessel Dialog

The Vessel drop-down list provides a list of all the Vessel components currently defined in the project. Once you select the required vessel, a default name is associated with it, but you can change this name if you wish. The remaining entries define the vessel origin coordinates, the initial vessel yaw orientation, trim and heel. Note that the vertical (X) coordinate is defined with respect to the Mean Water Line.

When you add a vessel to the model, this is reflected in the sub-component list as well as in the model preview, as shown in the figure below. If the vessel has a stinger with some supports specified, these are shown on the model preview at this point as well.
