Typically the next step after defining the model’s environment is adding your vessel. Click on the Vessels folder in the sub-component list, and then press the Add button. The Add Vessel dialog will open.
The Vessel Component drop-down list provides a list of all the Vessel components currently defined in the project. At this stage you have only one – Lay Vessel – which you should select. Note that PipeLay automatically assigns a default name to the vessel within the model. You can use one Vessel component to define two or more identical vessels within your Model component as long as they all have unique names. Rename this instance of the vessel in the model to Lay Vessel(1). The remaining entries define the vessel origin location, the initial vessel yaw orientation, vessel trim and heel. Specify the appropriate data as outlined in Example 3 and as shown in the figure below. Click OK to confirm. Note that the vertical (global X) co-ordinate is defined with respect to the mean water line.

The next step in creating a model is to define the connection points. This is described in the 'Defining Connection Points' article.
