The Model component is a powerful and intuitive tool for constructing 3D models of pipe laying scenarios. In this example, the Model component is named ‘Model’. ‘Elastic Seabed’ is selected from the Seabed drop-down list and the Water Depth is defined as 500m. The following sections describe the various elements that are added to the model.
One Vessel component named ‘Lay Vessel(1)’ is added to the model. The properties for this vessel are listed in the table below.

Two connection points are defined in this this model, ‘_SupportVCP’ and ‘Seabed Connection’. ‘_SupportVCP’ is generated automatically because it is at the first support located on the reel-lay ramp and it is located in the Vessel Connection Points folder. This connection point has the automatically generated properties listed in the first table below. Note that this support based connection point will not actually be used as there is already a Tower Connection Point defined on the Stinger component. Nonetheless its properties are outlined here for consistency.
The ‘Seabed Connection’ is located in the Seabed Connection Points folder and has the properties listed in the second table below. Note that the ‘Seabed Connection’ coordinates are calculated automatically as the Calculate Position option is kept at the default, Yes. This means that the Y-Coordinate is to change automatically from its initial zero value to some negative value away from the vessel.
