Model Component

Previous page Next page

The Model component is a powerful and intuitive tool for constructing 3D models of pipe laying scenarios. In this example, the Model component is named ‘Model’. The Rigid Seabed is selected from the Seabed drop-down list and the Water Depth is defined as 69m. The following sections describe the various elements that are added to the model.

Vessels

One Vessel component named ‘Lay Vessel(1)’ is added to the model. The properties for this vessel are listed in the table below.

Connection Points

Two connection points are defined in this example, ‘_TensionerVCP(1)’ and ‘Vessel Connection 1’. ‘_TensionerVCP(1)’ is generated automatically because a vessel with a tensioner has been added to the model and it is located in the Vessel Connection Points folder. This connection point has the automatically generated properties listed in the table below, except DOFs 4 and 5 which are user-specified. The other connection point defined in this example, named ‘Vessel Connection 1’, is user defined. It is also located in the ‘Vessel Connection Points’ folder, and is used to connect the return cable to the vessel. The second table below contains the properties of this connection point.

Sheaves

One Sheave component is defined in this example, named ‘Sheave(1)’. It is located in the ‘Sheaves’ folder. Table 8.17 contains the properties of this connection point.

Lines

One Line component is added, ‘Pipeline(1)’. The start point is specified as ‘_TensionerVCP(1)’ and the end point as ‘Sheave(1)_main’. The Sag Option is defined as Auto.

Cables

One Cable component is added, ‘Cable(1)’. The start point is specified as ‘Vessel Connection 1’ and the end point as ‘Sheave(1)_return’. The length is defined as 615 m.
