Model Component

The Model component is a powerful and intuitive tool for constructing 3D models of pipe laying scenarios. In this example, the Model component is named ‘Model’. The Seabed is selected from the Seabed drop-down list and the Water Depth is defined as 1000m. The following sections describe the various elements that are added to the model.

 

Vessels

One Vessel component named ‘Lay Vessel(1)’ is added to the model. The properties for this vessel are listed in the table below.

Connection Points

Two connection points are defined in this example, ‘_TensionerVCP(1)’ and ‘Seabed Connection’. ‘_TensionerVCP(1)’ is generated automatically because a vessel with a tensioner has been added to the model and it is located in the Vessel Connection Points folder. This connection point has the automatically generated properties listed in the table below, except DOFs 4 and 5 which are user-specified. ‘Seabed Connection’ is located in the Seabed Connection Points folder and has properties as shown in the second table below. Note that the ‘Seabed Connection’ coordinates are calculated automatically as the Calculate Position option is kept at the default, Yes. This means that the Y-Coordinate is to change automatically from its initial zero value to some negative value away from the vessel.

Buoys

One Buoy component named Buoy(1)’ is added to the model.

 

Lines

One Line component named ‘Pipeline(1)’ is added to the model. The Start Point is specified as ‘_TensionerVCP(1)’ and the End Point as ‘Seabed Connection’. The Sag Option is defined as Auto.

 

Cables

One Cable component named ‘Yoke Cable(1)’ is added to the model. The start point is specified as ‘Structure_Yoke on Pipeline(1)’ and the end point as ‘Buoy(1)’. The length is defined as 100 m.
