Installation - Before You Begin
This section provides a checklist for the PipeLay package contents, and the program system requirements.
The PipeLay download package contains the following items:
•PipeLay software as a download
•Software protection device or dongle (new users and those being issued with additional devices only). Note that network license users adopting the Sentinel HASP or cloud licensing software dongle will not receive or indeed need a physical hardware dongle.
Your system must meet the following hardware and software requirements in order to install and run PipeLay:
▪PC with Intel/AMD SSE3 capable CPU or better. PipeLay is computationally intensive and performs best on CPUs with strong floating point maths performance.
▪A 32 bit or 64 bit version of the Microsoft Windows™ operating system. Windows™ 7 and Windows™ 10 are supported.
▪Internet Explorer 11.
▪DirectX Version 9.0c. If you do not have a copy of this version of DirectX, it is provided on the PipeLay download.
▪Any Windows™ DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card.
▪Minimum screen resolution: 1024 × 768 pixels.
▪A minimum of 2GB of memory; 4GB or more is recommended for 64 bit operating systems.
▪Hard disk with at least 300 MB free space.
▪A network connection or a USB port (for installation only).
▪Any Windows™ compatible mouse.
▪USB port (for security device).
IMPORTANT: Before trying to install PipeLay on Windows™ 7/10, you should note that several of the installation steps require administrator privileges. If you do not have administrator access to your machine, please contact your Systems Department before proceeding.
Starting with PipeLay Version 3.2, the analysis engine is released in a 64 bit version, in addition to the usual 32 bit version. The use of PipeLay 64 bit should yield performance benefits for the post processing of analyses, as post processing is memory intensive and the 64 bit application will have access to more memory if available. It is recommended that you install the 64 bit version, if your computer is running a 64 bit operating system. This can be determined by clicking the Start button, typing Computer in the search box, right-click Computer and select Properties. The operating system can be found under the System section. You can install either 32 bit or 64 bit, or both on a 64 bit operating system. You can only install a 32 bit version on a 32 bit operating system. Both the Starter and the Full Editions of PipeLay are released in 32 and 64 bit versions.
If you wish to remove earlier versions of PipeLay before installing the new version, simply use the ‘Add/Remove Programs’ entry in the Windows™ Control Panel. If you do not uninstall the earlier versions, it is recommended that you install the new version into a new directory.
