GUI - Fast Navigation

Previous page Next page

It can be hard sometimes to find the specific components you are working on in a large PipeLay project. Thankfully, the program contains several navigational aids which can jump you directly to a specific component. These features, when used in conjunction with the component view history, discussed earlier, are extremely useful. With these features, you can go directly to a component of interest and then immediately back to where you were originally working from, with the minimum of effort.

Jump-to-Component on Drop-Down Lists

On any Component View where there is a drop-down list allowing the selection of a component name, if you right-click on the list you will get a context menu containing an option to jump to that component directly. The figure below shows an example.

Just select “Jump to this component” to be brought directly to the selected component. To cancel the request and stay where you are, click anywhere away from the menu.

Jump-to-Component in Input Dialogs

Components are often referenced within input dialogs. If you right-click on a component name, either on the list in a list-type dialog or on a spreadsheet cell in a spreadsheet-type dialog, you will get a context menu containing an option to jump to that component directly after the close of the dialog. The figure below shows an example.

Just select “Jump to this component (after dialog close)” to indicate that you want to go to the selected component. To cancel the request, click anywhere away from the menu. Once you close the dialog by either pressing OK, Cancel or Remove Data, PipeLay will jump you to the requested component.

Fast Navigation from the Status Area

PipeLay will sometimes print errors and warnings to the program’s Status Area, particularly when generating analyses. Where these errors and warnings relate to specific components, you can usually double-click on them and PipeLay will bring you directly to the component in question. Furthermore, if possible, the program will even open the data-input dialog in question for you so that you can correct the input appropriately.
